Don’t get me wrong. I love the soft blue-green-white gradient that is TS4’s CAS setup as much as the next person.

But sometimes the background can get repetitive. And boring.
Especially if you’re the type of Simmer who spends hours creating Sims instead of actually playing them.
Hey. No judgment here.
I’m more of a “explore the whole game” girl myself, but I have friends who are utter masters at creating gorgeous Sims. So if your CAS is starting to feel a little dull, don’t worry.
There are hundreds of CC creators who are all too happy to make alternative Sims 4 CAS backgrounds for us to enjoy.
Because this list is so massive, I’ve chopped it up into three categories: Colors & Patterns, Scenes & Backdrops, and Pop Culture Scenes & Concepts. Enjoy!
Colors & Patterns
Pretty straightforward.
These are CAS backgrounds that have simple designs, colors, and patterns that aren’t meant to depict anything (i.e., a street scene, a building, etc.).
1. Luumia CAS Overhaul 2
Let’s start with something clean and simple.
Luumia’s CAS Overhaul 2 offers some pretty great replacements for the Sims 4 default CAS setup.
Aside from immersive lighting (which gives your Sims a lot more depth) and an eye specular remover for Pets, you also get to choose the color of your CAS background: 5 pastel gradients and 7 solid color options.
Absolutely perfect if you want no fuss, no muss, and no frills. I personally prefer the solid white background – just because it makes every color on my Sims pop.
2. SnowKimx’s Cute CAS
This CAS BG feels so much like the wallpaper of the spacey, galaxy-loving kid’s bedroom, and I am here for it.
The doodled stars and planets on a soft blue background coupled with cotton-candy clouds outlined in chalk?
Way too cute. You have to try it.
3. busra-tr’s Rainbow
If SnowKimx’s BG was for the kid obsessed with stars and planets, busra-tr’s Rainbow CASBackground is for the full-on artsy kid who loves fingerpainting and hand-print painting.
It’s a full screen of rainbow splotches that’s pretty much wholly psychedelic with a dash of multi-colored lava lamp.
And I mean that in the best way.
4. KatVerseCC’s Stars n Colors
Speaking of psychedelic, KatVerseCC’s Stars n Colors CAS Background is a pretty good blend of “unicorn drink colors” and “actual sparkles.”
Who would have thought this combination would work?
I didn’t, but clearly the creator is a visionary.
It’s not as wallpaper-y as the previous two, but it’s definitely just as fun.
5. KatVerse’s Striped Studio CAS
We’re back in wallpaper territory, but I honestly can’t be mad.
Not when the wallpaper is this cute.
Simple candy-colored stripes provide a simple but stunning backdrop for all your gorgeous and quirky Sims.
There are eight color options too, in case you feel like switching it up from time to time. My favorites have to be mint and purple.
6. UrbanSims’s Fall CAS Backgrounds
So the link will lead you to a whole page of several CAS background color packs.
The one I picked was the first pack, which is the creator’s Fall CAS Backgrounds pack.
But I do recommend exploring the other packs on this page if golden, earthy, and warm tones aren’t exactly your vibe.
FYI I tried the Urban Pastel CAS Backgrounds pack, too. Talk about your bubblegum pink.
Anyway the Fall CAS pack has 18 gorgeous solid color options to choose from. And as I mentioned earlier, they’re all warm, golden, earthy tones.
What’s great is that each color has its own individual download link, so you can definitely just pick the shade that catches your eye.
I went for #9, which is a muted mossy green that just demanded my attention.
7. KatVerse’s Camo CAS Background
The StrangerVille game pack introduced us to the Military career.
Why not design a soldier in front of a background that matches?
This unique camo-print CAS background is another one of KatVerse’s unique creations.
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea – especially if your Sim sports a lot of greens and browns – but just know that lighter colors pop quite well. A definite plus.
8. KatVerseCC’s Marble CAS Background
Is everything on this list from KatVerse/KatVerseCC?
Nope. But you can’t deny that they make awesome backgrounds.
And this blue-white-gray marble background is no exception.
I’m someone obsessed with water themes and water patterns, so I absolutely had to include this.
It’s all artistic ripples and watery streaks. Makes me think of a huge floor-to-ceiling painting in some high-end art gallery that my Sims would visit on vacation.
Point is, I love it. And I hope you do, too.
9. KatVerseCC’s Grey Grunge CAS Background
This one has that photo-studio-backdrop feel to it that I think is pretty fun.
And if you can download custom CAS poses for your Sim, it would make for some truly excellent shots.
Especially if your Sim prefers the grunge-y street, casually urban fashion.
10. KatVerse’s Colorful Gradient
If the rainbow splotches from item number 3 were too colorful and defined, and the solid colors from number 1 are too plain, I give you a viable middle ground: a gradient.
Specifically three gradients from KatVerse.
I tried the third option – which is this lovely soft blend of blues with some purple – and I gotta say; it is so pretty!
Zooming in on your Sim also gives you this nice soft color wash.
11. KatVerseCC’s Wooden Floor CAS Background WF01
This one kinda feels like the grunge background, only less “artfully scuffed.”
Also; there’s a wooden floor.
In all seriousness, I can appreciate this one for its simplicity.
And its “performing arts” feel.
Your Sim is perfectly positioned to look like its standing on the floor, and the spotlights above make it feel like a stage setting.
Zooming in doesn’t pixelate the texture too much either, which I think is pretty great.
12. KatVerseCC’s Stars CAS Background
This one feels very much like a prom photo studio backdrop, but in the best way.
Darker colors to get a little lost in the black backdrop (and some shades of black sort of disappear), but the lack of functionality doesn’t really bother me.
Not when I’ve got my Sims standing in front of a background so gorgeous and classy.
Zooming in sort of blurs the stars, but I find it looks pretty artful that way, too.
Like you took a star brush in Photoshop and swiped it across the top.
Scenes & Backdrops
These CAS backgrounds depict an actual physical setting using scenery images.
They basically look like blown up landscape photos for your Sim to stand in front of.
Common themes are nature-y backgrounds (like parks, trees, forests) and modern, urban settings (like buildings, housing interiors, commercial backdrops).
13. Nowa2000’s Fantastic Landscape
Starting us off is this fantasy world background pack from Nowa2000.
It’s a set of 10 different CAS backgrounds all depicting fantastical and futuristic worlds.
For instance, the third option has some pretty alien-looking plants growing in the background, and the second one looks like there’s an honest-to-goodness spaceship in the background.
I thoroughly enjoyed this pack for the fantastical aspect, as I’m a self-proclaimed fantasy nerd.
My favorite has to be option seven because I’m also a sucker for ruins.
14. KatVerse’s Forgotten Grotto HL04
This CAS background from KatVerse (again) is yet another perfect Maxis-Match-masterpiece.
The elements have that same clayified feel of all Sims 4 objects – especially the rocks and the crystals.
This makes it by far one of the most immersive CAS backgrounds on this list; it really looks like your Sim has wandered into some sort of forbidden grotto for the sake of a really sweet photoshoot.
15. KatVerse’s Winter Wonderland
I have come to accept the cultural impact Frozen has had on this generation.
It’s so potent, every winter/snow/ice-themed thing has me (and many others) thinking of Disney’s Queen Elsa and her iconic musical belting.
This Winter Wonderland CAS BG pack is no different.
No, I don’t want to build a snowman.
But there is a CAS background option in here that features a snowman (cuddling up with jolly ol’ Saint Nick, no less).
16. KatVerseCC’s Enchanted Forest
Why isn’t this background under the Pop Culture Scenes section?
Because the creator may have used her Merida Sim as the inspo feature photo, but she never stated this was the Highland forest of Brave fame.
In fact if you look at it, it could work as any generic enchanted forest you want to plop your Sims in. It photographs great, too.
I snagged some great screenshots with my own redheaded Sim.
17. Littledica’s Old School CAS Room
Now for something more true-to-current-life; an old schoolroom setting.
It’s a pretty simple concept that I think was executed beautifully.
Just like the Forgotten Grotto piece, the objects in the background have that clayified Maxis Match texture that gives them actual depth and dimension.
So it looks less like a blown-up, printed-out backdrop photo and more like an actual in-game setting (even though you’re just in CAS).
There are six styles to choose from, and the creator was even nice enough to include a recolor kit!
18. thorben.maerz’s TS2 Inspired TS4 BG
How about a burst of nostalgia? Remember the TS2 CAS setup?
That red brick room with a mirror, a window, and some wall décor?
Well Sims creator thorben.maerz has recreated that very room using Sims 4 objects and textures.
And they made it into a pretty sweet TS4 CAS BG for us newer Simmers to enjoy.
Gotta love the light and shadow detail, too. It makes it look highly interactive.
19. Annett’s CAS Backgrounds “Room” Part 2
Much like the previous item, this CAS Backgrounds “Room” pack from Annett (part 2) reminds me a lot of the CAS setup for The Sims 3.
Maybe it’s the mirror. Maybe it’s the window. Maybe it’s the angle.
It’s probably all three.
All’s I know is, I got smacked by nostalgia hard when I saw the sample photos.
There are three color/design options for this set. I liked the mauve-y brown one.
20. Annett’s CAS Backgrounds “Town Streets”
This Town Streets CAS BG pack features some pretty loud pieces.
I’m talking cars, buildings, lights, pedestrian lanes … there are a lot of elements happening in the backdrops.
Definitely not for those who prefer a cleaner, more minimalist setting when creating their Sims.
But for those who love pictures that give a sense of rushing, movement, activity?
These backgrounds are absolutely perfect.
There are seven different town streets for you to choose from. I personally liked the sepia, old-timey feel of Background 5.
21. Annett’s CAS Backgrounds “White Room” Part 1
Heading back inside for a quick breather, I give you yet another CAS backgrounds pack from Annett.
This one is muted and a lot quieter than the previous piece in the sense that it’s a bunch of white rooms.
That’s it. That’s the pitch.
Your Sim is posing in some (almost eerily) sterile white rooms, just because.
I personally think the lighting and shadows here – combined with the unconventional concept – make each background option look freaking artistic.
There are seven choices, but you can’t download each individually (you can install them individually though, don’t worry).
22. Arch’s Custom CAS Backgrounds
This flat mesh from Arch allows you to plaster screenshots on it to create custom CAS backgrounds.
Unfortunately, the post doesn’t give instructions on exactly how to do that.
It instead gives us two pretty cool CAS backgrounds to enjoy: an art room background and a city street background.
The difference between these options and the CAS BG packs from Annett is basically the texture. Annett’s CAS backgrounds look a lot like photo backdrops in a photography studio.
The backgrounds here have that nice clayified texture that makes CAS screenshots look like they were taken in-game. A feature I personally love.
23. Annett’s CAS Backgrounds Autumn ’17
We’re back outside.
There’s no denying that this Autumn 2017 CAS BG pack is absolutely stunning, but that could also be my unashamed love for Fall colors talking.
There are quite a few options in this pack, too. Nine, to be exact.
And they’re all bursting with varying shades of red, orange, and gold.
The backgrounds aren’t Maxis Match by any means, but the light and shadows in some of them – especially backgrounds 1 and 7 – make them look pretty immersive.
24. Annett’s House “Autumn Wood” by Frau Engel
If we’re going to have an enchanted forest and a bunch of Fall backdrops, we might as well have a cute, holiday-themed, cabin in the woods, right?
This ten-piece CAS background pack is as unique and quirky as they come.
There’s some pretty great detailing and depth to the objects that make all the backgrounds look three dimensional.
Not exactly clayified, but not entirely green-screen-esque, either.
25. Annett’s Christmas Eve by Frau Engel
You’ve seen the outside, now head on in.
This isn’t explicitly stated to be the interior of the Autumn wood log cabin featured in the last piece, but the narrative works pretty well.
It’s even made by the same person!
This Christmas Eve pack features the inside of what looks to be a very cozy, very homey wooden house that is decked to the nines with Christmas décor.
There are nine variations all in all, and each one showcases a different room of this mysteriously festive house.
You’ve got the kid’s room, the kitchen, the hallway, the master bed and bath – it’s all there. And it’s all gorgeous.
My favorite rooms (aka the ones I had the most fun taking screenshots of) were the kitchen (#8), the kid’s room with the giant teddy (#14), and the hallway (#12).
And I finally got to use EA’s Ugly Winterfest Sweaters.
26. Nowa2000’s CAS Background Set “Jungle”
This CAS background pack is probably my hands-down favorite out of all the Scenes & Backdrops section.
See, I was a huge fan of The Sims 3: World Adventures when it came out. Spent hundreds of thousands of hours (and probably hundreds of thousands of Simoleons, too) painstakingly making my way through all the pyramids, tombs, and booby-trapped Champs Les Sims manors.
Now, don’t get me wrong; The Sims 4: Jungle Adventure is a pretty cool explore-the-wilderness pack too.
But there was just something about the utter chaos, local shenanigans, and lack of boundaries in World Adventures that made it irreplaceable for me.
For whatever reason, seeing this set of seven CAS Jungle backgrounds reminded of that chaotically random expansion pack.
And for that, I highly recommend you get these adventure-flavored backgrounds.
27. Nowa2000’s CAS Background Temple
You know the very first tomb I conquered in TS3 World Adventures? The Dragon’s Maw.
I mean, I think that’s everyone’s first tomb… but I could be wrong.
This stunning Temple CAS background from Nowa2000 reminds me of that tomb a lot. Especially when you reach the huge room with all the yoga mats and the fire traps.
So, just like the Jungle Pack from the item before this, I had to download and test out the BG.
10/10 would let my Sims shamelessly pose on this background for the rest of their natural simulated lives.
28. Nowa2000’s CAS Backgrounds Wasteland
Diving back into urban/industrial territory we have the Wasteland CAS BG pack – still from Nowa2000.
Now, unlike the other backgrounds from this particular creator, I struggled a bit with letting this pack on the list.
I’m going to be honest: some of the background variations were a little too pixelated for my liking. Especially when zoomed in.
There was also a weird, two-dimensional feel to most of the backgrounds (especially #2 and #3) that really pushed the “green-screened background” narrative.
But eventually, the concept – and background #2, shockingly – won me over.
I think it’s a pretty cool wasted, destroyed landscapes set that gives your game a lot of flavor.
29. Annett’s CAS Backgrounds “Graffiti”
These are some really noisy CAS backgrounds.
But there’s no denying that they look pretty darn cool.
Six absolutely perfect settings for your super-urban, radically street-smart Sim. And the backdrops are pretty high quality, too.
Not a lot of pixelation when you zoom in – and I zoomed in all the way to the face section, mind – and plenty of ambience to give each variant a completely unique mood.
Personal favorites have to be #6 and #5.
What can I say? I like my street art gritty.
30. Annett’s “Bathrooms – Part 2”
These are a complete 180 from the past couple items, but I figured we needed a breather.
Does anyone actually want their Sims posing in bathrooms? Apparently so.
I guess I sort of see the appeal, especially since the bathroom backdrops in this pack are all varying levels of sleek, chic, and pretty.
I was particularly drawn to #3 (because the mix of marble and earthen tones just spoke to me) and #8 (look at all the knobs for the shower!)
Sometimes you just want your Sim’s background to speak wealth and luxury, and these bathrooms all look pretty darn luxurious to me.
(Except #2. It sort of looks like a communal… area. But the rest are pretty great!)
31. Annett’s “Dressing Room”
Is posing in a dressing room infinitely better than posing in a bathroom?
I’d say so. I mean, it’s still up to personal preference, but I think my Sims looked – and felt – much classier in front of the CAS backgrounds from this pack.
See? I put them in robes and towels and everything.
Couldn’t pick a favorite from this pack, though. Literally all the dressing rooms here look stunning!
From the lights and shadows to the layout and the oh-so-luxurious elements, there wasn’t a single variant that was overshadowed.
Good luck picking and installing just one.
32. Nowa2000 CAS Backgrounds Heaven and Hell
Hey. If we can have futuristic/post-apocalyptic waste lands, overgrown jungle ruins, and straight-up luxury bathrooms for TS4 CAS… we can definitely throw in some divine flavors, too.
So this Heaven and Hell CAS BG pack from Nowa2000 features some really gorgeous backgrounds.
I can appreciate how it’s not just your standard “clouds and light versus brimstone and fire.”
I mean really, there are actual variations for each plane.
The Heaven background has two variants: one with stairs in the back and one with …what looks to be a Greco-Roman temple?
The Hell background has four variants, and they’re all pretty distinct mixes of fire, ash, rubble, and ruin.
Like how I snuck some wings in there, too?
Pop Culture Scenes & Concepts
And last – but obviously not least – check out some pop culture CAS backgrounds for the Sims 4.
Games, books, TV shows … we’ve got it all.
Heck, there are even some CAS backgrounds in here that are taken from actual worlds in The Sims 4.
You know what? I’ll start with those three.
33. KatVerse’s Realm of Magic Backgrounds
As one of my favorite TS4 game packs, I immediately jumped on this download.
And good thing I did, because the graphics do not disappoint. At all.
I got my usual red-haired Sim to quasi-cosplay Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Archie Comics version) as she posed in front of the Magic Realm portal, and I personally loved the outcome.
There are a total of five (beautifully designed) background options in this pack. I personally love the ones with the portal seen from the Magic Realm and the portal seen from Glimmerbrook.
34. KatVerse’s Sulani CAS Backgrounds
Whether your Sim is in a gorgeous half-Sim, half-fish creature (seriously TS4 mermaids are the beautiful) or they’re just living their best (island) life, this Sulani CAS BG pack from KatVerse is an absolute gem to have in your Mods folder.
The scenes are very distinct in-game shots that capture the beauty of Sulani perfectly.
There are two sunny options for the sun-kissed Sims and one “starry night by the sea” option for a more romantic setting.
35. KatVerse’s Sylvan Glades HL02
And finally, a CAS background straight from one of the TS4 Hidden Worlds.
The correct terms are actually “secret lot” or “hidden area,” but Hidden World satisfies my dramatic fantasy nerd self better, okay?
As you probably know, the Sylvan Glades are only accessible via the pretty, colorful tree (apparently called the Sylvan Tree) adjacent to the Crick Cabana lot in Willow Creek.
While I personally think it’s a crying shame that you can’t do much in that area – short of wandering around and fishing – that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the gorgeous graphics.
And they translate into a CAS background so well, too.
36. KatVerse’s Sabrina Background
So, speaking of Sabrina the Teenage Witch…
What can I say? I was a big fan of the comics growing up.
Besides, it’s a pretty simple background graced with the silhouette of a pretty iconic character.
The concept’s pretty unique and the quality is great, too. Nothing to complain about, really.
If nothing else, I think it makes for a pretty novel – and interesting – CAS experience.
37. KatVerse’s Disney D02 Background
I’m trying to come up with a witty Agrabah/Aladdin/Sims 4 connection, but I’ve got nothing.
I just think remaking the Agrabah marketplace and the Royal Palace into a pretty darn detailed Sims 4 CAS background is genius.
Is there any reason to get this background other than for the sake of nostalgia and a deeply rooted love for old Disney classics? Not really.
But those reasons were good enough for me. I saw the sample photo and I immediately smacked the download button.
(And I may or may not have tried shoving my own Sims into Aladdin-inspired costumes. We’ll never know.)
38. KatVerse’s The Vampire Diaries Background
I’ve never watched an episode of Vampire Diaries in my life, but even I could recognize the Salvatore Boarding House.
If you’re a fan, this is a nifty and novel background that your Vampire Sim can pose in front of.
If you’re not, it’s still a pretty quaint backdrop. And high quality, too.
Zooming in doesn’t pixelate it at all.
39. KatVerseCC’s Alice in Wonderland CAS Background
Alice in Wonderland is such a pretty, iconic, and whimsical pop culture piece that it didn’t at all surprise me to see a CAS background for it.
I do think this is one of the most artistic pieces in the whole list, especially since the creator incorporates easily-recognizable Wonderland elements without making the entire background look tacky or over-the-top.
The Cheshire Cat’s creepy grin, the Red Hearts background, the giant flowers with faces (which is the background I chose for my Sim photo op) – all of these are so distinctly Alice in Wonderland, without being screenshots from the actual animated film.
If you love the story, the world, or even just the style, definitely get these backgrounds.
40. Joyzilla’s World of Warcraft CAS Background Set
Wrapping up here we have a pretty epic CAS background pack.
I give you: World of Warcraft, Sims 4 edition.
Not really… but you gotta admit the amount of detail in every scene is pretty freaking stunning.
There are a total of 10 backgrounds to choose from, and all of them are gorgeous. And on-point.
I would argue that there’s a variation for every mood.
Happy field of flowers? Check.
Mysterious ruins? Yep.
A succinctly enchanting yet somehow foreboding flower coven? Gotchya covered.
Each variant his its own download link too, and you can clearly see the different backgrounds in the featured photos.
I tried #8 and #10 just to get a feel of each scene, and I can say with confidence that the detail and quality are both excellent. No pixelation or unnecessary blurring here. Give ‘em a try and see what you think!

Simpe Sims 2
The Sims 4 Package Editor
