Super Smash Bros. Crusade is a surprisingly decent fan game based on Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series, taking the most inspiration from Melee.

Unused Music/Sounds
How To Play
Found in music/menu, Howtoplay.ogg is the song from the How To Play section in the original Super Smash Bros. It was obviously intended for a 'how to play' cutscene present in each of the Smash Bros. games, which this game lacks. The controls are self-explanatory, though.
Break the Team!
What appears to be a well-hidden inside joke of some sort. In fighter/hand, this odd sound file lays there with the title snd_crazy_death_unused. This file has in fact nothing to do with Crazy Hand, but rather the Melee announcer. It sounds poorly recorded, as if from the Melee Sound Test.

There are way too many of these.
- nar_adventure.wav, an unused announcer clip of him saying 'Adventure!', which probably meant that there was going to be an Adventure Mode at some point.
- Another clip has him saying 'Race to the Finish', which suggests that a 'Race to the Finish' stage (like in Melee) was going to be implemented in Classic Mode. Later returning in v9.1.
- There's one for him saying 'wins', which in the N64 iteration was used in the after-match results screen of a Team Battle ('Red/Blue/Green Team wins!') and is used by default in Ultimate ('[Character] wins!').
- Voice clip of the Announcer saying 'King of the Ring', which goes unused in previous builds. The idea itself was added in v9.1.
- A file called TEST.wav of the announcer saying 'One'. This is a longer version of nar_1.wav.
- Another unused announcer call is him saying 'Fighting Sprite Team' (which is referring to a part in classic mode that references the original Smash game's 'Fighting Polygon Team' and Smash 4's 'Fighting Mii Team'). The final version replaces it with 'Multi-Man Crusade'.
- There are actually two Mr. Game & Watch calls, named mgrw.wav and mgrw1.wav. The second one doesn't echo.
Unplayable Character Calls
- Like Melee, an unused call for Master Hand is present. Unlike Melee, an unused call for Crazy Hand is also present.
- There's also one of him saying 'Gengar', which isn't a character in the game. Strangely, this doesn't have an echo effect. He is a Pokémon that appears out of a Pokéball, however.
- One of him saying 'Samurai Goroh', from F-Zero. Like Gengar, it doesn't echo.
- Gray Fox from the Metal Gear series has an unused announcer call. It doesn't echo.
- Ike from Fire Emblem who showed up in Brawl, no echo.
- Calls for Pokémon Trainer, Squirtle, and Ivysaur can be found. All were Pokémon characters who showed up in Brawl...although oddly, Charizard is not present.
- King K. Rool, a Donkey Kong Country/Land boss who eventually debuted in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. No echo.
- There is a call for Nightmare. This call would be for either the final boss from Kirby's Adventure and its remake, or a main character of the Soul Calibur series.
- Paper Mario. Possibly a moveset swap for Mario.
- Pit, from Kid Icarus.
- A call for Scizor, a Pokémon, can be found.
- Super Star Gang, possibly referring to the helpers in Kirby Super Star.
- Calls for Zelda and Sheik can be found. Both Legend of Zelda characters.
- Simon from Castlevania has his own call, who also eventually debuted in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- There is a call for Sir Kibble. This would probably go with Super Star Gang.
- A call for Sub-Zero, from the Mortal Kombat series, is also present. Let's just say he's too frozen to fight.
- The main character from Joy Mech Fight, Sukapon, also has a call.
- There is one of him saying 'Cloud', most likely referring to Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII, who eventually debuted in Smash 4. No echo.
- 'Hector', most likely the Fire Emblem character. Purpose unknown, no echo.
- 'Isaac', probably the Golden Sun character. Purpose unknown.

Unused Stage Content
Onett
As of v0.8, Onett was removed from the Stage Select screen. However, the code still exists and can be accessed with the Random button. The stage was removed completely in v0.8.4.
...However a preview file for it can be found. It's unlike any other preview picture currently in the game. Most notably, it uses a circular outline rather than a rectangular one.
Rainbow Road
Earlier demos suggest that Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 was going to be a playable stage. The most current demos only leave one bit of it behind: a stage icon.
Unused Asteroid Field Background
In the Asteroid Field folder, there's ASTEROIDbgunused that is clearly unused. Sadly, it's somehow ended up in either the icon and/or stage preview for every demo thus far.
Template
This file is present in template.png with the other stage previews. Given its file name, this was probably used as a template for the stage previews.
Instructions
There is a file named Instructions.txt in the stage previews folder, which references the template file.
Random
This seems to be an alternate random select preview. The final version uses a GIF that resembles TV static, whereas this one is a PNG file. It also uses the same circular outline as the Onett preview.
Other Unused Graphics
Open-Source
This image left with the title screen files suggest that at one point, Crusade was going to be open-source...or...something. A larger version of the logo by itself also exists.
Unused Smash Cube Icon
Apparently meant as a developer in-joke, this graphic was first seen in v0.8.4. A green version of this image was used as the icon for v0.9.
Unused Loading Screen
There is an old loading screen hidden in the title screen folder. Interestingly, this not only shows an unused version of the logo, but it also has the 'Team Phalcon' logo, which was quickly dismissed.
Placeholder Cursors
Crudely-drawn placeholder cursors for the character select screen.
Unused Item Sprites
A few unused item sprites have sneaked their way into the game.
Bucket
A bucket which seems to be a custom sprite based off the one in Mario & Wario, present in items/bucket.gif.
Item Box
A custom item box sprite (which resembles those of Mario Kart Super Circuit), present in items/itembox.gif. Its intended usage is pretty obvious.
Warp Star
Present in items/warpstar.gif. In the Smash Bros. games, players can ride one to crash land into opponents.
PSD Files
There are many unused PSD (Adobe Photoshop native file format) files within the game's files, presumably forgotten leftovers of the development process.
Fourside
The Fourside preview picture exists in a PSD file in addition to its PNG counterpart. Oddly, its file name is dreamprev.psd, which would seem more fitting for a Kirby stage than anything from EarthBound.
Planet Zebes
A PSD file also exists in the folder for Planet Zebes named fg.psd, which is an exact copy of fg.png, found in the same folder.
Unused Challenger Approaching
This file, present in menubg under the name SSBCUnlockfighter.png, suggests that characters were originally going to be unlocked the traditional way (by completing the requirements and then defeating the unlocked character in a one-stock Vs. match). However, in the final version a notification appears saying the player has unlocked the character, and said character is added to the roster, rendering this screen useless.
Series list
Inside the folder of series icons is a txt file named 'LISTOFSERIES'. This was probably used as a reference guide during development. Strangely, the Assassin's Creed listing is not aligned properly in the text file.

The letter 'C' as it appears on most title screens of the Contra series.

The Aperture Science logo from the Portal series.
The Umbrella Corporation symbol from the Resident Evil series.
The emblem from the Assassin's Creed series.
The head of a Mite from Brawl. The icon itself was used to represent Subspace Emissary as a whole. Since there's no mode like that here, it goes unused.
