The ATM is one of the most convenient ways of banking made available to bank customers by the banks. This innovative service mechanism provides bank customers with the ability to conduct their banking 24 hours a day at any ATM nationally. It argued that the current political atmosphere was so toxic.
A chain letter has been making the rounds, claiming that in the event of you being forced by a robber to withdraw cash from an ATM, you can alert the police by entering your PIN code in reverse. Such a scheme has been proposed, but no ATMs currently in use support it.

You can not alert the police that you are being forced to withdraw cash from an ATM by a robber by entering your PIN in reverse. Here is a smaple of a hoax email:
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.
Dutch version of the hoax:

EEN TRANSACTIE AAN EEN GELDAUTOMAAT ... ZEER BELANGRIJK!
DEZE KLEINE INFORMATIE KAN VAN GROOT NUT ZIJN ...
Indien U ooit gedwongen wordt om geld af te halen aan een geldautomaat om daarna te overhandigen aan uw belager, weet dat ALS U UW PINCODE ACHTERSTE VOREN INBRENGT ( b.v. indien uw code 1234 is dient U 4321 als code in te tikken) de machine erkent dat U de code met opzet achterste voren hebt ingevoerd.
U krijgt inderdaad het geld maar tegelijkertijd wordt de politie verwittigd dat U bedreigd/bestolen wordt. De politie kan U in dit geval dus ter hulp komen. Deze nuttige informatie werd via de TV vrijgegeven en het blijkt dat slechts weinig mensen hiervan op de hoogte zijn.

It is often stressful when you forget your card at home or lose it on your way to the bank. You might be in a hurry or withdrawing money for something important. Before now you had to go back home and fetch your card then come back to withdraw but not anymore.
The country's number one banking partner Capitec Bank has come up with a way for their customers to be able to withdraw money at the ATM machine without a need of their bank card. This is extremely exciting news for all those individuals that like convenience.
Not only can you withdraw your money at any capitec ATM, capitec bank has made it possible for you to withdraw money at the following retail shops: Shoprite, U-save, Game store and Checkers retail shops that you easily have access to.
It is very obvious that almost everyone never forgets their phones at home. All you will need to withdraw your money is your cellphone and it does not even have to be a smart one as long as it is a cellphone, you can use it to withdraw money from your bank account without the use of your card.
The following steps are to be taken if you want to send money to yourself for withdrawal without a card:
How to send cash using the app
- Tap Transact
- Tap Send cash and enter your Remote PIN
- Tap the button to send cash
- Choose 'From' account
- Enter the amount you want to send
- Create a 4-digit secret code (this will be used to collect the cash )
- Tap Next
- Read the terms and conditions, tick the boxes and tap Accept
- Tap Yes to confirm the transaction
- You'll receive an SMS with the reference number – send it to the recipient
- Send the secret code to the recipient in a separate message
Note: You will need to have access to our banking App in order to send cash
The above-mentioned process is for those ones with smartphones. For some of you who don't always have their smartphones for some reason can use the USSD method as described below:
How to send cash using USSD
- Dial *120*3279# and reply 9
- Accept the terms and conditions
- Reply 1
- Choose 'From' account
- Enter the amount you want to send
- Create a 4-digit secret code (this will be used to collect the cash)
- Enter your Mobile Banking PIN
Note: You will need to be registered for Mobile Banking in order to send cash
After doing any of these two method you will be sent a reference number to your mobile phone number that is linked to your bank account. This reference number will be the one that you will use to withdraw the money either at an ATM or a selected supermarket.
You will need to utilise the 'Cardless services' option on the ATM to start the withdrawal process. After pressing that, you follow up by pressing 'Collect Cash'. The ATM will then ask you for the 4 digit pin which you should have created a while back when you were sending the cash to yourself. After all the that, your money will be withdrawn.
This service is not for you only, it can serve multiple purposes. Some can use it to conveniently send cash to their loved oned wherever they are in the country without having to worry about then having their I.D or standing in long lines at super markets.
As with everything, this too has its downsides. The only downside to this is the fact that one cannot send more than R5000 while using the capitec banking app and the USSD function limits it to R1000 per cash send.
